OUT NOW!
“CURISOSITY for Solo Electric Guitar Ensemble“
“Curiosity for Solo Electric Guitar Ensemble”, is due Feb.28, 2025 on Cuneiform Records! Touring is planned for May and June on the east coast/New England, possibly the midwest in October. Excited for round two of this work. Besides four new Dream Interpretations, the composition “Curiosity on Mars” is structured by images taken by NASA’s “Curiosity” Mars Rover. Space Music indeed!

The Anvil Orchestra
We composed two new scores this fall: “Nosferatu” (coinciding with the 2025 remake) and “The Adventures of Prince Achmed“, the earliest animation feature still extant. It was directed by Lotte Reineger in 1926 and is absolutely beautiful. Our Nosferatu premier in Kansas City on Dec.13 felt really good, and was extremely well received.
Sun., Jan. 5: The National Gallery, Washington, DC. Prince Achmed (premier).
Sunday, Jan.12: The Cabot Theater in Beverly, MA. METROPOLIS!
Sat., March 1. Coolidge Corner Theater, Brookline, MA
2:00pm: The Adventures of Prince Achmed.
Friday, March 28: The Dundee Theater, Omaha, Nebraska. METROPOLIS!

Drawing/Art
I am treating my “Density Drawing” series as material for other work. Here I have traced them onto cotton material and inked them in in various ways. I have since created a shirt out of this material for the shows I will be doing for my “Curiosity for Solo Electric Guitar Ensemble” album (see above) in the Spring.

A Night of Surrealist Games
‘Tis the season!
Feb.14. Real Art Ways, Hartford, CT. (Valentine’s Day tradition at RAW).
March 21: Epsilon Spires, Brattleboro, VT

Tinnitus Resource
There is a major new resource for Tinnitus research based in Europe. It is called Tinnitus Quest. I was interviewed earlier in 2024. If interested, click the link, scroll down to “Artists” and scroll to the right. I am 6 or 7 in on the right. Jack Rubinacci, who interviewed me, is a stellar human being. I am quite sure that the latest information on tinnitus will be posted on this site. It’s a real service to musicians and people in the military, among others.
Some Books I enjoyed in 2024
Books are not like records for me: once I develop an opinion about a record, it generally stays the same. Some books, however, really change for me. An extremely “art” Beowulf re-write, 1Q84 (Murakami), The Waves (Virginia Wolf), Naked Lunch (Burroughs) have all felt quite different upon different readings.
“Robert Rauschenberg and the neo-avant-garde”, by Branden W. Joseph. Rauschenberg is pretty fascinating, and I was not aware of his deep connection with John Cage.
“The Martian Chronicles”, by Ray Bradbury: Written in 1950 and amazingly forward-looking. His views on race for that time are rather good. I loved these stories in Junior High School and they still hold up in my opinion (and better than “The Invisible Man” stories).
“Dr. Bloodmoney” by PK Dick. Post-apocalyptic dystopian theme as one might expect from the master. But once you accept certain idiomatic indicators, a truly deep story about humanity.
The Complete Nonsense Books of Edward Lear. Of course! There are a number of extremely well-known “ditties” in this feature-length book. I read it beginning to end. Perpetual entertainment.
Carl Jung: Memories, Dreams, Reflections. Jung’s autobiography. It’s pretty amazing overall.
Taschen Books “Basic Art Series”: I can’t say enough good about this Taschen Books series. Recent purchases have been Joan Miro (a favorite of mine since 1974), Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring (more recent comprehensions). Beautifully printed and written. Total Bang for the Book.
