THE GREEN MAN

The Canadian shows in September with Storey Littleton were very fun, especially PHOG in Windsor with Ann Arbor friends showing up. But the show in Ithaca, NY, at Angry Mom Records was stellar. Alternative club shows – great!

Red Yeti Records:
Roger Clark Miller’s ‘The Green Man’ is a captivating indie album that explores themes of nature and existence. With its rich soundscapes and thoughtful lyrics, this release is a must-have for fans of the genre.

Stereo-Gum:
Album opener “I Live In A Forest” is an idiosyncratic, psychedelic track that makes me wonder if Miller has been listening to Neutral Milk Hotel lately. (ed. note: he has not)

The album, on Don Giovanni Records, is available HERE.

We refer to Metropolis as “So-So”: Sold Out, Standing Ovation. Every time. 2027 is the 100th anniversary of this film, so it may be that we are playing it more than usual next year. Our trio version with Larry Dersch at the George Eastman Museum in Rochester, NY, in September had some serious life to it. And considering the band has been playing it since the latter in 1990’s, that’s somethin’…

Sproton Layer

This is Miller’s band with his brothers Benjamin and Laurence. From 1969-1971. i.e., truly psychedelic. A recent interviewer told Roger that it sounds like it could have been recorded this year. Time fuses styles.

Emit Time, from 2013, is an EP with 2 songs live from the reunion shows, and 3 songs recorded that weren’t recorded well enough in 1969/1970. It balances out the other releases. It’s a digital EP companion to the recent Press Your Hand and the Whole Room Fluctuates (LP/digital), on 12XU. Side I of that album is from 1969. Side II is from 1971.

A review from A Pessimist is Never Disappointed. July 2026:
“One of the coolest reissues of the summer is this one from Sproton Layer… The band were doing freak-out music, but what’s here on Press Your Hand and the Whole Room Fluctuates is, oddly, almost more accessible than stuff from era peers like The Red Krayola, for example. There’s a little here that echoes early Beefheart too, but this stuff aligns more closely with a Nuggets aesthetic than anything else. Highly recommended.”

A review from The Radar, Ann Arbor, Michigan. July 2026:
“The Miller brothers—Roger, Ben, and Larry—are among the most important and inventive musicians to call Ann Arbor home, and their late ’60s teenage family band Sproton Layer is where it all began.”

And the Rest?

It takes a lot of time to book and manage all my touring/shows and release, so at this point, not much else is going on. But I have high hopes for working more on my artwork/draw-paintings starting November. Who knows?
